Phoretic interaction

WebHere we present a simulation study of phoretic flow around a spherical colloid held fixed in a concentration gradient. We show that the resulting flow velocity depends non-monotonically on the strength of the colloid–fluid interaction. WebPhoresy is commonly considered to be a commensal interaction, in which one species hitches a ride upon a dierent species for dispersal among resource patches. Despite being ubiquitous, phoretic interactions are poorly investigated, limiting our current understanding of its ecological and evolutionary consequences.

WebJun 29, 2024 · On the top of this, when several colloids are close to a fluid interface, the Marangoni flows give raise to effective interactions among the phoretic colloids. Interestingly, these effective interactions are long-ranged, , and hence compete with capillary interactions. In the case of colloids adsorbed at fluid interfaces, such Marangoni-induced ... WebFeb 18, 2024 · In comparison, there are only a few records of phoretic interactions between avian lice and other insects such as butterflies and bees (Keirans, 1975a), so these interactions are less likely to be important for host switching.
